A wet and cold winter has prevented us continuing the churchyard survey for the time being – but that doesn’t mean we’re resting on our laurels – far from it! 

The churchyard survey team is making the best of the time by creating a computerised database so that the results can be analysed and some sense made of the mass of photos and data we have accumulated so far.

Some ERG members have also been investigating a local house which appears to have 17^th C origins despite its much later exterior. We are hoping a local vernacular buildings expert will soon be able to confirm our suspicions on this. The history of this house is now the subject of particular research – alongside our other ongoing research into various themes relating to Embsay-with-Eastby’s history – Great War soldiers & Home front, the schools, the non-conformists, Georgian & Victorian mill-owners, Embsay priory – and much more.

When the weather improves – soon we hope! – we shall be back out and about continuing work on the surveys of the churchyard and field walls.
